Name: Sally Dawson
SPG Career: Assistant Accessories Designer
Career Goals: To always enjoy what she does and some day have her own
design business
Sally Dawson likes to have
fun. A recent graduate of the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, England,
Ms. Dawson took advantage of the school’s Work America program to explore
New York’s fashion industry. "The moment I saw New York I loved it,"
she enthuses. "There’s so much fun to be had here. I love the vibe
and the diversity of New York people."
After completing the 3-month Work America program, Ms. Dawson sought the advice
of an SPG recruiter to help land her a long-term assignment. "I
had heard about SPG in England and felt really comfortable working with them,"
she states. "Sarah gave me pointers on how to improve my portfolio, and
after I made the revisions I got the perfect job!"
Now an Assistant Accessories Designer with a company geared toward the lively
college-age market, Ms. Dawson uses her natural talent to design bags, hats,
scarves, gloves and other accessories. "I’m passionate about what
I do. I want to put things out there that are unique, that people are going
to love -- and that I’m going to love as well. Having fun at what I do
is really important to me!" Clothing and accessories designed by her company
can be seen on the TV show Dawson’s Creek (no relation).
Ms. Dawson has made many discoveries while in New York. Her latest weekend passions
are rollerblading to music in Central Park and hip hop classes in SoHo. "I’m
still learning to do both, but the positive energy of the people who surround
me keep me trying!"
