An
Aerial Perspective
Ed Rossi is an
enterprise architect. In this newly-defined area of executive IT management
and resource planning for a major brokerage firm, he comes in contact
with every facet of the business -- from financial transactions to data
warehousing, Web initiatives, human resources, sales automation, product
development and customer service (to name a few). His mission is to ensure
that strategic business initiatives are met and supported throughout all
enterprise systems. The integration of business goals with complex computer
networks is key.
"We analyze where
the organization sits at a snapshot moment in time," states Mr. Rossi.
"I take a look at the organization from a 30,000-foot view and then zoom
in to ensure that both business and technical people understand the objectives."
His efforts affect the entire institution; these initiatives cover the
company worldwide, across all divisions, across national boundaries and
time zones. "It’s like a big spider web," he states. "I need to understand
the scope of all problems and be able to express the solutions in business
language to high level executives as well as in technical language to
programmers and technical managers."
According to Mr. Rossi,
his SPG recruiter is among the few recruiting professionals who
truly understand the scope and nature of executive-level Enterprise Architecture.
"Rich's experience level was very evident in the way he handled himself and
my search," states Mr. Rossi. "Rich paid attention to every nuance and
development. He was diligent in procuring a very competitive offer. I
am very happy with my new position."
Although Mr. Rossi
is dealing with business issues in Tokyo time as well as in U.S. time,
he still finds moments to pursue his love of music. An accomplished guitar
player, Mr. Rossi composes as well as sits in at local clubs with various
jazz and rock artists. At one time he was a professional musician, playing
in bands at night and working with technology during the day. "Everyone’s
got to rest some time!" he laughs, "Now I keep music as a hobby and enjoy
it on the side."
